Biography

Hanna Yu is a Ph.D. candidate in Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. Her research examines how financial capability, financial decision-making, and family context shape well-being across adulthood, with particular attention to long-term health outcomes, inequality, and family life.

Her current work focuses on financial capability as a protective factor for health, using longitudinal data and machine learning to examine how multiple dimensions of financial capability predict later depression and physical health outcomes. She is also interested in childfree populations who choose not to have children, particularly how childfree adults navigate decision-making, finances, and adulthood within broader social and structural contexts. Her broader goal is to produce research that informs financial education, strengthens family well-being, and supports more equitable life course outcomes.
